The wait is finally over. Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman made it a close call, the the team got the deal done.
Eagles rookie safety Andrew Mukuba has signed his contract with the team. Mukuba was the Eagles' second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He had a stellar final season in college with the Texas Longhorns as he had 69 tackles, four tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 15 games. Mukuba also nabbed five interceptions during the season, tied for fifth in the nation, and was a third-team All-SEC selection.
Where does Mukuba go from here with the Eagles in 2025 and beyond?
The tape shows that Mukuba is an absolute ball hawk in the secondary as he has a nose for grabbing the football. His tackling will need to be more consistent, but he has the potential to be a future starter in the NFL.
Does that future start in 2025?
Mukuba is going to be in a training camp battle with Sydney Brown and Tristin McCollum for the starting job. Brown and Mukuba were splitting time with the first team during offseason workouts.
Brown and McCollum have more experience in Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defense with McCollum having a little bit more since he was healthy and played all season. Last year, Brown missed the start of the season due to his 2023 injury.
Now, the Eagles need to find someone to replace C.J. Gardner-Johnson and work alongside Reed Blankenship. Brown might have a slight advantage, but Mukuba has been praised this offseason and might be pushed into the starting lineup.
Whether his time as a starter begins in 2025 or 2026, the Eagles know they have something special in Mukuba and can be an elite defender in the secondary.
