As fans can look forward to finally seeing Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again next year, Elizabeth Olsen is finally opening up about getting another go with Scarlet Witch. Following her demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, 2025 will finally mark the year that Olsen comes back to the MCU. However, this will not be in the live-action side of the MCU timeline, but rather through an animated release, providing an unexpected return for both the character and actor.
In a new interview with Vulture, Olsen shared her thoughts on always having a place in the MCU family following the reveal that she will be voicing her Avengers heroine in the Marvel Zombies TV show. Olsen, who calls her time with Marvel "a consistent thing," shared what she enjoys about the working dynamic with Marvel Studios:
I’d never really had the mentality of ‘one for them, one for me.' Marvel has been such a consistent thing I’ve been able to return to and has created — what’s the word? — some feeling of insurance in my life that has given me freedom to choose other jobs. So I haven’t felt like, ‘And then I’ll do this to do this.’ [It] has always felt like a choice. Every time, it’s character-driven. It’s always like, ‘We have this idea, and that’s why we want you to come back.’ It’s not like, ‘Just throw her in something.’
What Elizabeth Olsen's MCU Return Comments Mean
While more details will be revealed later about Olsen's 2025 MCU return for Marvel Zombies once they get deeper into marketing, it makes sense to hear Olsen call the return a "character-driven" decision. Though Wanda's character saw more expansion through releases like WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there's still plenty of ground left uncovered - especially for Marvel Zombies, which is able to focus on a different Marvel universe altogether.
Having a Wanda variant in the Marvel Zombies show will also allow Olsen to do something different from what she has done previously in the MCU. Even though Marvel Zombies is only a handful of episodes, the decision to involve Elizabeth Olsen in the story is both one that bodes well for the series, and one that is promising in terms of considering a potential live-action return for Scarlet Witch also. That said, the full impact of this particular return won't be clear until the show itself is released.
Our Take On Elizabeth Olsen's MCU Return Comments
From what Elizabeth Olsen has shared about continuing her collaboration with Marvel Studios, it seems as though it is only a matter of time until she gets to play Scarlet Witch in live-action again, especially with The Multiverse Saga getting closer to its end. After Kevin Feige's comments about a Scarlet Witch return, it wouldn't come as a shock if details are already being worked out regarding when the character will show up next in the franchise. But until then, fans can catch Olsen as a different Scarlet Witch in Marvel Zombies in October 2025 on Disney+.
