Comedian Ellie Taylor has waded in on the conversation after Strictly Come Dancing became plagued with controversy following its backstage scandal and Wynne Evans' high-profile withdrawal from this year's live tour. The 41-year-old spoke exclusively with Express Online about her experience on the BBC dance programme, where she was partnered with Johannes Radebe in the 2022 series.
When asked about her thoughts on the latest backstage tension surrounding Strictly Come Dancing, she simply said: "All I can speak about is my own experience doing Strictly, and I really loved the whole thing. [...] It was all challenging, to be honest, but all the best things in life are. I'm so glad I did the show. I look back on it incredibly fondly."
The comments come after Wynne Evans was axed from the recent Strictly Live! Tour this year after he made a crude comment during a photo call towards host Janette Manrara. The 53-year-old opera singer—best known for appearing in the GoCompare adverts—competed on Strictly with Katya Jones last year.
It was then revealed that Wynne had used the sexually suggestive term "spit roast" to describe Janette Manrara during a private joke with 'EastEnders' actor and former co-star Jamie Borthwick. He later apologised, saying: "My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise."
A year earlier, two professionals were booted off Strictly Come Dancing following allegations of abusive behavior. Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice were axed after their partners, Amanda Abbington and Zara McDermott, made separate claims about their treatment whilst on the show.
Giovanni has denied the allegations surrounding his conduct. His spokesperson at the time said: “Giovanni refutes these allegations and denies any accusations of abusive or threatening behaviour. He has provided substantive evidence to the investigation and he remains fully confident of clearing his name.”
The Italian later revealed how his "world collapsed" amid the accusations, which were partially upheld following an investigation. He recently told The Mail on Sunday that he "would love to return" to the BBC staple but doesn't think producers want him back on the dancefloor.
Moreover, over a fifth of UK adults (22%) make plans knowing they’ll cancel them nearer the time - prioritising chores, work overtime or run out of energy.
Speaking about the campaign, Ellie said: " I think Open Week is a great opportunity to make a plans to see and do something brand new! As a mother to a young baby who's done nothing social for about 18 months, I'm committed to saying yes this year!"
