Elliotte Friedman Reveals Details of Blockbuster Failed Martin Necas Trade to Canadian Team
Martin Necas was traded to the Colorado Avalanche at the deadline, but according to a recent report, a blockbuster deal almost sent him to the Winnipeg Jets.
This past season, we saw the Carolina Hurricanes involved in several blockbuster trades, but perhaps the most shocking of all was their first, sending Martin Necas and other assets to Colorado in exchange for Mikko Rantanen.
However, we now know that this wasn't their first big deal on the table for young forward Martin Necas, as Elliotte Friedman has now lifted the lid on a deal that would have sent him to the Winnipeg Jets.

According to Friedman, the Jets were deep in conversations for a deal involving unrestricted free agent Nikolaj Ehlers, and while we don't know the full details of what that trade would be, Friedman notes that the Jets pulled out when they realized they may not get a long-term commitment from Necas.
Unsurprisingly, that is what the Colorado Avalanche are currently dealing with, as it appears that Necas isn't quite happy with his current situation, and less than 12 months after acquiring him, they may look to flip him in the summer.
At this point, it's unclear what the future holds for Necas, as he appears non-committal to several teams around the league, and with unrestricted free agency upcoming next summer, he may just play it out and try find a long-term deal that way.
We can't know for certain how things would have played out if Necas ended up in Winnipeg rather than Colorado, but both teams ended up falling short in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Dallas Stars, but if the Jets had of got the deal done, things would have been very, very different for Colorado, Carolina, Winnipeg and Dallas this past season.
