Emily Simpson shares with Scheana Shay what led to her sister being her surrogate.
As a guest on Scheananigans, Emily Simpson tells the VPR star why she opted to have a surrogate for her children.
“When Shane and I first got married, we started trying to have kids pretty early,” the OC housewife began.
At the time, Emily was 32 when she and Shane made the decision to start a family. The couple went the traditional route initially, which resulted in 5 or 6 miscarriages.
From there, the Simpsons elected to go the IVF route.
“I’ll never forget, I was at Costco and I was pregnant with twins, and I said ‘I don’t feel right, something feels wrong.'”
“Right when I said that my water broke.”
Sara to the rescue
When Emily lost her first set of twins it was around the holidays. Because her sister Sara was staying with them for Thanksgiving, she was there for Emily during the loss. It was her idea to be Emily’s surrogate.
“Please don’t do it again. I don’t know what’s wrong with your body, but your body just can’t do it,” Sara said. “I’ll do it for you.”
At the time, her sister had a daughter and was willing to carry for Emily.
“To look at my three children now, I always just think about my sister and how much she sacrificed,” the attorney concluded.
ICYMI: Emily’s husband Shane has two daughters from a previous relationship — Shelby and Chanel.
Emily’s sister carried Annabelle (11) and twin boys, Luke and Keller (9.)
Every time Emily opens up about her fertility journey, I’m in genuine awe. Not only over the fact she had the resiliency to continue trying for a family, but because her sister was selfless enough to make it happen.
