Erika Jayne on RHOBH Marriage Curse: ‘Kind of Bizarre’

Something strange is happening with the ladies of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Their marriages just can’t survive! It might be something in the water, or maybe something in the air, but even Erika Jayne thinks it’s odd. Is the RHOBH marriage curse a real thing?

Erika kicked things off with her circus of a divorce. Since then, Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley have also separated from their husbands. Most recently, Teddi Mellencamp announced she had split from her man. Is the show cursed, or is there something about reality TV that makes marriage difficult? Erika has some ideas.

With the news of Teddi’s divorce from Edwin Arroyave, RHOBH’s Fox Force Five is officially 4-1 with their marriages. Erika recently spoke to Us Weekly about the phenomenon, but she wasn’t ready to blame the show for the back-to-back breakups.

“I think that any time you put a marriage on television in a reality TV show setting, certainly the cracks are going to show,” Erika explained. “I think I kicked off the single lady streak, and then we passed it to Kyle, who passed it to Dorit.”

What Erika just described sounds like the worst game of tag ever, and we’re about to see it all play out in Season 14 of RHOBH. With that said, Erika said she didn’t believe the show was to blame for all of the marriage problems.

“I think it’s life pressure,” Erika theorized. “I think that it’s a different life when your life is entertainment; it certainly is a different set of conditions. But, you know, these things happen to everyone. Now, do I think it’s one, two, three, four of us, like, in a row? Kind of bizarre, but yeah, sh*t happens.”

Whether it’s an affair with a horse trainer or a slow burn of a separation, Erika admitted that it’s “terrible” when the marriages fall apart. She’s finally learned about empathy, and she’s feeling it for all of the single ladies of RHOBH.

She explained, “This is not a good thing, meaning that there’s a lot of pain, there’s a lot of hurt feelings. There are children involved here. It’s hard to watch your friends go through things like this.”

Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premieres Tuesday, November 19, at 8/7c on Bravo.
