ESPN Connected 25-Year-Old Favorite Sleeper Draft Pick to Vikings

Building depth in the secondary is a primary focus for the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason.

2024 was not kind to the Vikings' cornerbacks and safeties, as they finished 28th in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 242 yards per game. The Vikings addressed the secondary in the offseason by adding Jeff Okudah and Isaiah Rodgers and re-signing Byron Murphy Jr. in free agency.

Minnesota’s added reinforcements will help, but they don’t give them the pieces needed to build for the future. That’s where the NFL Draft will come to help out.

In ESPN’s article covering the latest buzz around the draft, draft analyst Jordan Reid named UTSA cornerback Zah Frazier his favorite day three sleeper. Three teams were named as good fits for Frazier, including the Vikings.

“Frazier is an ideal match for teams that run zone heavy defensive schemes. His combination of height, speed and ball skills are among the best of the late-round options in this class. At 6-foot-3, 186 pounds, he ran a 4.36 40 and had impressive jumps (36½ inches on vertical and 10-feet-6-inches on broad). He tied for second in the FBS with six interceptions last season, and his reactionary skills complement his size. Frazier's age -- he'll be 25 in October -- might push him down the board, but he could quickly outplay his draft slot. The 49ers, Bills and Vikings are three teams that feature zone heavy schemes and have needs at the position.”

Last year, Frazier led the American Athletic Conference in interceptions with six. He added 24 tackles, nine pass deflections, and a forced fumble in 12 games.

Minnesota has struggled to find and retain talent at cornerback. Since 2020, the Vikings have selected eight cornerbacks, and Mekhi Blackmon is the only one remaining on the active roster.

His age is a concern, being one of the oldest prospects in the draft, but that’ll give Frazier an advantage to step in as the nickel cornerback for Murphy and Rodgers, who are expected to be the starters. Give him time to develop, and the Vikings could have a starter in place in a few years.
