Ex-Bruins Forward Should Be Big Hit for Blackhawks

This former Bruins forward should thrive in Chicago.

On the first day of free agency, the Chicago Blackhawks signed several former Boston Bruins players. Tyler Bertuzzi, Craig Smith, and Pat Maroon will all play in the Windy City next season.

While Bertuzzi is the big-name addition for Chicago, Maroon's arrival should not be ignored. He has the potential to be a significant player on their roster next season.

With the Blackhawks rebuilding, they have several young players who are developing their games in the NHL. Thus, the Blackhawks need veterans who can help mentor them through this process. Maroon, who is known as an excellent leader and teammate, should thrive in this role with the Blackhawks. It also doesn't hurt that he has three Stanley Cups on his resume.

Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman (1) and left wing Pat Maroon (61) celebrate after defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime in game seven of the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at TD Garden on May 4, 2024.

In addition to his leadership, Maroon should also benefit the Blackhawks because of his gritty style of play and overall toughness. The Blackhawks needed an intimidating player to protect superstar youngster Connor Bedard, and Maroon will be more than up for the task.

When looking at the Blackhawks' lineup, Maroon should have a guaranteed spot in their bottom six. He is still a solid depth forward at this point in his career, and that should carry over to Chicago in 2024-25.

While Maroon is not a star, there are clear reasons to believe he will be a notable addition to the Blackhawks' group. From here, it will be intriguing to see what kind of year he puts together for the Blackhawks.
