Ex-Bruins Star Should Be Home Run for Blackhawks

This former Boston Bruins forward should be a great fit for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Earlier this offseason, former Boston Bruins forward Tyler Bertuzzi landed his big payday, signing a four-year, $22 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. With this move, Bertuzzi is expected to be a significant piece of Chicago's core as they continue their rebuilding stage.

After a brief but strong tenure as a rental with the Bruins, Bertuzzi spent this past with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Overall, the 29-year-old had mixed results with the Maple Leafs, recording 21 goals, 43 points, 98 hits, and a plus-2 rating in 80 games. However, with Chicago, he will have a golden opportunity to make a bigger offensive impact.

When looking at the Blackhawks' depth chart, Bertuzzi should have a clear spot in their top six. Due to his skill, he has a great shot at playing on the first line with rising superstar Connor Bedard. With Bedard already being an incredibly impactful offensive player and expected to only get better from here, Bertuzzi could benefit immensely from playing on a line with him. In addition, as one of Chicago's best forwards, Bertuzzi will surely receive plenty of reps on their power play.

However, besides his offense, Bertuzzi should be a strong addition for the Blackhawks because of his tenacity and chippy style of play. Every club needs a skilled player who plays with an edge, and Chicago now has that in Bertuzzi.

It will be fascinating to see how much of an impact Bertuzzi makes with the Blackhawks from here, but the fit looks marvelous on paper.
