This former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman is off to a great start with his new club.
After not landing a contract from an NHL club this off-season, former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo signed a one-year deal with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL earlier this week.
Now, DeAngelo is already making a big impact with the KHL club.
On Friday (Sept. 27), DeAngelo made his debut for SKA St. Petersburg and was nothing short of excellent. The right-shot defender dominated the contest offensively, recording three assists and a plus-6 rating. SKA St. Petersburg went on to beat Severstal Cherepovets by an 8-5 final score.
DeAngelo's top assist of the contest came in the first period on Ivan Demidov's goal. After receiving a pass in the offensive zone, DeAngelo showed off his great vision and made a perfect feed to Demidov. From there, Demidov quickly one-timed it home.
After an outstanding first performance in the KHL, DeAngelo will now look to build off it. If he ends up putting together a big year with SKA St. Petersburg, he could make a real case for himself to get an NHL deal next season.
