Ex-Jets Aaron Rodgers Making Solid First Impression On Steelers
The New York Jets opted to cut ties with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the offseason in an attempt to turn the page to a new era of football in New York.
The Jets would go on to sign former Pittsburgh Steelers signal caller Justin Fields to be the team's new quarterback. Ironically, after stealing Fields from Pittsburgh, the discarded Rodgers would sign with the Steelers to replace Fields and Russell Wilson.
Since joining the Steelers, Rodgers has made some solid impressions on his teammates and coaching staff. Veteran edge rusher T.J. Watt recently spoke out about what it's like to practice against the future Hall of Fame signal caller.
"Frustrating because he talks a lot of smack," Watt said when asked about practicing against Rodgers (h/t Sports Illustrated). "He really does. A lot of the no-look passes are things that we're getting used to. I like to bat down a lot of passes at the line of scrimmage, he's able to manipulate the defense good, so that's been very frustrating. Hopefully one day we get the better of him."
Having Rodgers in Pittsburgh is going to do a lot more than help them win games this season. While Rodgers is a major upgrade over Mason Rudolph and Will Howard, the in game performance isn't the only thing he brings to the table.
The level of practice that he competes at is going to push his teammates, both on offense and defense, to the next level. Rodgers' ability to perform at a high level is going to force the Steelers' defense to be better than before. He's also going to be crucial in the development of Howard.
It's safe to say the veteran quarterback is making a great first impression in the Steel City.
