Former Red Sox superstar Mookie Betts fractured a bone in his left wrist, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters, including Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times. Roberts said Betts “will be out for some time,” DiGiovanna reported.
The Dodgers shortstop left Los Angeles’ 3-0 win over the Royals in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday after Kansas City reliever Dan Altavilla hit him with a 98 mph four-seam fastball.
Los Angeles Times’ Dylan Hernández reported via Twitter that Betts won’t need surgery and will visit hand specialist Dr. Steven Shin on Monday.
The 31-year-old leadoff hitter is batting .304 with a .405 on-base percentage, .488 slugging percentage, .893 OPS, 10 home runs, 16 doubles, three triples, 40 RBIs, 50 runs, nine steals, 47 walks and 34 strikeouts in 72 games (331 plate appearances) this season. Betts entered Sunday with three defensive runs saved in 524 ⅓ innings at shortstop.
He finished in the top five in NL MVP voting three of his first four seasons with the Dodgers.
