The Boston Red Sox have had an active offseason so far, but it has mostly come on the pitching side of things. They traded for All-Star Garrett Crochet and signed Walker Buehler and Aroldis Chapman.
Craig Breslow referred to Boston's lineup as " imbalanced" in September of last year, and the team has yet to address the issues.
Breslow was referring to the fact that the Red Sox lineup has more left-handed hitters than right-handers and how that formula will not be sustainable in the loaded AL East.
However, there is still time for the Red Sox to make a trade for a middle-of-the-order right-handed bat.
Boston lost Tyler O'Neill in early December, who was easily the team's best right-handed slugger. He hit 31 home runs and posted a .847 OPS.
It's possible that the lineup could see some more production, with first baseman Tristan Casas likely to get a plethora of at-bats if healthy, and Trevor Story will be returning to the lineup as well.
Still, he has been battling injuries for the last couple of seasons.
The Red Sox could be banking too much on their young stars to produce for them consistently, and of course, they are expecting star Rafael Devers to have a monster season like he always does.
Things could look rough for Boston if Devers struggles and other veterans do not come around.
