Fаlconѕ Re-Sіgn Cornerbаck Dee Alford Aһeаd of 2025 Seаѕon

Falcons keep key piece in the secondary.

The Atlanta Falcons re-signed cornerback Dee Alford to a one-year deal on Monday, keeping a key piece of their defense for a fourth season.

Alford, 27, started 11 games in 2024 and had a career-high 83 tackles, along with 11 pass breakups, a sack, and a forced fumble. While he gave up some big plays in coverage, Alford’s journey from Division II football to the NFL shows his toughness and hard work. After going undrafted in 2020, he played in the CFL and won a Grey Cup before joining his hometown Falcons in 2022.

Falcons Strengthen Nickel Position with Alford’s Return

Alford is back with the Falcons on a one-year deal, bringing toughness, experience, and slot-corner skills to the defense. He reunites with a strong group led by A.J. Terrell, the team’s top corner who usually takes on the best receivers. Mike Hughes adds veteran depth and can play both outside and inside, allowing just 358 yards and two scores in 2024. Clark Phillips III, a young corner who played well late last season, adds more competition at nickel.

With star safeties Jessie Bates III and Justin Simmons behind them, the Falcons’ secondary is deep and talented. Alford’s return shows the team still sees value in his energy and effort, even if his coverage needs work.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris

Morris and Falcons owner Arthur Blank are focusing on internal growth and strategic improvements to their defense, rather than making drastic changes. With Jeff Ulbrich now leading the defensive scheme, the team is looking to build on the foundation they already have, particularly in the pass rush. The re-signing of Alford helps strengthen the secondary, providing more depth and versatility as the defense looks to improve in 2025.
