Falcons 2022 draft pick included among potential trade candidates

It’s the dead time of the NFL offseason as the Falcons break before training camp ahead of a highly anticipated season with Raheem Morris and Kirk Cousins leading the club.

Falcons 2022 draft pick included among potential trade candidates

While the offense, led by first-time and highly touted coordinator Zac Robinson, is expected to be one of the best in the league, the defense leaves a lot to be desired. It reminds me of Matt Ryan‘s Falcons.

Hopefully, Raheem Morris and Jimmy Lake have something up their sleeve, or Atlanta’s young talent bursts onto the scene this season. Or maybe, just maybe there’s another move coming down the pike.

I wouldn’t hold my breath, but the Falcons do have a couple of pieces that could be traded before the club’s Week 1 contest against the Steelers. Pro Football Network believes Tyler Allgeier is a potential trade candidate.

With Bijan Robinson in the fold, some might see Allgeier as expendable, but I wouldn’t expect him to be moved in a trade. The Falcons will still run the ball quite a bit in their new offensive system, so the need for Allgeier as a high-level backup is still high enough to warrant his place on the roster.

One name that should be on this list is Taylor Heinicke. The veteran backup took a pay cut to remain in Atlanta, but with Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix slotted to be the present and future at the position, Heinicke seems like the most likely Falcons player to be traded this afternoon.

If anything, I’d hope the Falcons would buyers this offseason, especially when it comes to the secondary. If they do make a trade, expect it to be Taylor Heinicke, though.
