Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich sat down on Friday for an interview with Falcons media to discuss the picks taken so far and what they bring to the table on defense.
Ulbrich stated that "when you look historically at the defenses in the NFL, the best ones are the four-down, five-down. They get down, and they have guys that just win. The people who are constantly fabricating defenses and gimmicking things up, there are good weeks and bad weeks. We are trying to create greatness here."
In the first round, the Atlanta Falcons chose a Georgia Bulldogs athlete for the first time in the franchise's history by selecting edge rusher Jalon Walker. Then, Atlanta would sneak back into the first round to select another edge, James Pearce Jr., from the Tennessee Volunteers by exchanging a few picks with the Los Angeles Rams, including next year's first-round selection for the Falcons.
Ulbrich would also say, "I'm excited because of these two guys for sure, but I'm also excited for the guys that we started with this week and to get a feel for that group of men who are willing to work and be the reason that this organization really goes in the right direction."
The Atlanta Falcons were the first team in 15 years to select two edge rushers in the first round of the NFL Draft. The move to get back into the first round has taken its toll on the rest of the draft for Atlanta, but the team may provide a spark within the next two days to move a player such as Kirk Cousins or Kyle Pitts to acquire more picks.
