Fans Erupt After Elliotte Friedman Drops Surprise on Artemi Panarin's Future with Rangers
The New York Rangers have a big decision to make on pending UFA Artemi Panarin, and Elliotte Friedman's latest comments have sent fans into a frenzy.
The 2026 NHL free agency class is absolutely loaded, and one of the biggest names among that group is Artemi Panarin, and while the likes of Connor McDavid and Kirill Kaprizov are not expected to get to free agency, the same can't be said for the veteran New York Rangers star.
With the state of the Rangers franchise, there have been question marks over Panarin's future after a fantastic run in the Big Apple, with many believing that the team should continue focusing on the future.
Now, Insider Elliotte Friedman has dropped a very intriguing statement on the future of Panarin, noting that not even insiders really know what's going to happen with the star winger.
'We'll see here what happens with Artemi Panarin'
Unsurprisingly, that has fans in a frenzy, with Panarin's future playing a key role not only for the Rangers, but for free agency in 2026 as a whole, with the decision made by the 33-year old set to effect the entire NHL and how free agency plays out.
Last season, Panarin was once again fantastic for a struggling Rangers squad, posting 37 goals and 89 points in 80 games played, and even though he's getting up there in age, there's the expectation that he could get paid in a big way on the open market.
Now, it's up to the Rangers to make a big call on whether or not they can retain him as a free agent, extend him before that point or make the call to trade him, but regardless of what happens, there's going to be plenty of intrigue and speculation around the 100-point scorer in the coming months.
