Flyers: 3 Potential Trade Destinations For Scott Laughton

Flyers forward Scott Laughton has been discussed often in the rumor mill, so let's look at three potential suitors for the veteran.

Scott Laughton

Several Philadelphia Flyers players have been discussed in the rumor mill this season, and Scott Laughton is one of the most notable. The 30-year-old forward was recently named to TSN's Trade Bait Board and has reportedly generated interest.

With Laughton being a key player and having another year on his contract after this one, the Flyers don't need to rush a move. However, they could move him if they receive a good offer, so let's look at three potential landing spots for the 2012 first-round pick.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been connected to Laughton this season, and it is easy to understand why. They want to improve at the third-line center spot, and Laughton would give them that.

Laughton's gritty style of play and ability to kill penalties could also make him a very appealing target to a playoff club like the Maple Leafs.

New Jersey Devils

Like the Maple Leafs, the New Jersey Devils also want to add a center, and GM Tom Fitzgerald has made this clear. They are all set down the middle in their top six with centers Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, but their bottom six needs work.

If the Devils acquired Laughton, he would give them a significant upgrade over players like Erik Haula and Justin Dowling at the 3C spot. Therefore, it would not be all that surprising if a player like Laughton was on the Devils' radar.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames have exceeded expectations this season and are right in the playoff race. They are another team aiming to improve down the middle, so they could also be a fit for the Flames. Laughton having another year on his deal after this season could also make him appealing to a retooling Flames club.

If the Flames acquired Laughton, he could fit in nicely in their middle six and on their penalty kill. In addition, he would provide the Flames with another experienced leader.
