After an anemic 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella conceded that his group is “a little tired”.

That might be underselling it, as the Flyers were badly outperformed despite fielding most of their NHL regulars, with the exception of a handful of prospects.

Veteran forward Anthony Richard, one of the newcomers pushing the hardest for an NHL roster spot with the Flyers, was again one of the standouts in the exhibition contest. Richard routinely used his speed and anticipation to create advantageous situations, especially in the neutral and offensive zones.

The roster battle between Richard, Olle Lycksell, and Jett Luchanko may take until the final preseason game on Thursday to reach a verdict.

In case you missed it, Alexei Kolosov made his Flyers debut in the team’s last preseason game Monday night against the New York Islanders and… he looked pretty good!

Kolosov only faced eight shots and saved seven of them, but I expect he will see a full 60 minutes on Thursday against the New Jersey Devils.

The NHL preseason is starting to take its toll across the league, and in the most negative way possible.

Though Patrik Laine and the Montreal Canadiens received some good news regarding his knee injury, injuries are piling up around the league.

Farther west, the San Jose Sharks are not going to be happy with the fact that star rookie and No. 1 overall pick Macklin Celebrini left the preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights with a lower-body injury and did not return.

Given that these are only preseason games, it is entirely possible that the Sharks were just being cautious with Celebrini, but the injuries to him, Laine and Artemi Panarin (lower-body) aren’t good looks for the NHL.

The NHL is also reportedly looking to cut the preseason in half in favor of more regular season games, but those talks are still in the preliminary stages.
