This Flyers goalie performed excellently against the Lightning.
The Philadelphia Flyers picked up a hard-fought 2-1 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night (Nov. 7). With the Lightning always being a challenge, this win should give the Metropolitan club more confidence.
However, one of the biggest stories of the matchup was the excellent play of Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov. The 6-foot-7 netminder 22 out of 23 Lightning shots and secured his first career NHL win in the process.
There is no question that Fedotov needed a performance like this. Heading into this matchup, Fedotov had struggled mightily in all three of his previous starts this campaign. He also had his struggles after joining the Flyers late last season, posting a 0-1-1 record, a 4.95 goals-against average, and a .811 save percentage. However, he has now broken the ice big time with this win and will aim to build off it from here.
With Samuel Ersson and Aleksei Kolosov sidelined, Fedotov will be the Flyers' top goalie for the time being. Thus, the 2015 seventh-round pick now has a great opportunity to show them he can be a dependable goalie in the NHL. He undoubtedly was just that against the Bolts in this one.
