Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Owen Tippett left Wednesday night’s game against the New Jersey Devils with an undisclosed injury, with the team announcing on social media that he would not return.
Tippett’s potential injury occurred just over a minute into the second period, when he was the victim of an open-ice hit from Devils’ defender Brenden Dillon. Tippett stayed on the ice for a bit and went to the locker room.
Tippett, 25, has 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 51 games with the Flyers this season. Now in his fifth full NHL campaign, Tippett has 87 goals and 85 assists for 172 points in 321 career regular-season games with the Flyers and Florida Panthers.
Drafted No. 10 overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Panthers, Tippett was acquired by the Flyers in March 2022, when Philadelphia traded captain Claude Giroux to Florida.
Going into Wednesday’s game, the Flyers are 23-22-6 with 52 points, sixth in the Metropolitan Division and three points out of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The team is 6-3-1 in their last 10 games.
Travis Konecny leads the team in all offensive categories, scoring 21 goals and adding 37 assists for 58 points in 51 games. Rookie forward Matvei Michkov is second in points with 34, while both he and Tippett are tied for second in goals with 14.
Joel Farabee, who has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points, is No. 6 on Daily Faceoff hockey insider Frank Seravalli’s 2025 Trade Targets Board. Here’s what Seravalli had to say:
“Few players on the Trade Targets board need a change of scenery more than Farabee. On pace for just 12 goals and 28 points, this is the worst season of Farabee’s six-year NHL career and John Tortorella doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Yet just last year, Farabee put up 22 goals and 50 points – leaving many to wonder whether he’s still just scratching the surface.”
