The Philadelphia Flyers announced Wednesday that they are placing forward Ryan Poehling on injured reserve and are recalling Anthony Richard from Lehigh Valley.
Head coach John Tortorella said Poehling was a little "banged up" and that he wouldn't be joining the Flyers on their road trip as he was also dealing with a family matter.
Poehling last played for the Flyers in the game against the Boston Bruins back on Nov. 2. The Flyers would lose that game 3-0.
In that game, Poehling was on the ice for 11:41. This is close to two minutes less than what he's averaged in the 2024 season.
Poehling has played 12 games for the Flyers and has tallied five assists for five points. He also has a plus/minus rating of plus-two.
Taking Poehling's place is forward Anthony Richard. In seven games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Richard has tallied four goals and five assists for nine points and is a plus-three.
Richard joined the Flyers in training camp and showed a lot of promise. In six preseason games, he totaled two goals and two assists for four points. He would finish with a plus/minus rating of -3. He was one of the last cuts out of training camp and would be sent to Lehigh Valley.
Richard should help give the Flyers some speed and versatility as he can play all three of the forward positions. However, he'll have to wrestle a spot in the lineup away from Nicolas Deslauriers. One provides physicality and the other speed. Which will the Flyers choose?
