Flyers News

The Philadelphia Flyers have apparently dropped their big ol’ roster for training camp and the upcoming NHL preseason, which starts in *checks notes* four weeks!

On this rendition of the Flyers training camp roster, I broke down each position by number and analyzed what this year’s training camp is going to mean for specific players. To nobody’s surprise, the Flyers are absolutely loaded at right wing and defense, but less so everywhere else.

Oh, and speaking of surprises, you might want to see the goalies.

I’d also like to take a moment to send my best wishes to Travis Konecny and his family, as their Haddonfield, New Jersey, residence apparently caught fire and suffered some pretty heavy damage on Wednesday night.

Reports say the home isn’t in great shape after all three floors were affected, but the most important thing is that Konecny, his wife, and his two kids are safe and unharmed.

NHL News

The hockey community was in for a big surprise on Thursday afternoon when the Winnipeg Jets traded top prospect Rutger McGroarty to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a one-for-one trade that yielded former first-round pick Brayden Yager.

This isn’t the first time a Penguins trade has caught folks by surprise, and it feels more fun on the surface after coming together in the days following the Patrik Laine trade.

For those out of the loop, McGroarty requested a trade out of Winnipeg to try and strong-arm his way onto an NHL roster because… well, he felt like it. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff didn’t have a clear answer when asked about the ordeal, but I suppose they’re more worried about developing Yager now instead.

As for McGroarty, he’s likely playing in a top-six role on an aging Penguins team that still features NHL legends Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Despite that, anyone suggesting he’s seriously in the running for the Calder Trophy has probably lost their marbles.
