Flyers Sіgn Rodrіgo Abols To One Yeаr Deаl

   
The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Rodrigo Abols to a one-year, two-way $775,000 contract.

The 28-year-old previously played for Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League, where he recorded 26 (14 goals, 12 assists) points this past season. He was tied for first on his team for powerplay goals (5), and had the second-highest number of total goals.

In 266 career SHL games (he spent six seasons with Örebro before Rögle BK), Abols has 163 points (85 goals, 78 assists). 

Abols was drafted 184th overall by the Vancouver Canucks, and made his North American debut with the Springfield Thunderbirds in the AHL during the 2019-20 season. 

He has also represented his native Latvia at the Under-18 World Junior Championship, where he helped his team secure gold, along with the Under-20 World Junior Championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016, where he won silver, bronze, and gold medals, respectively. At the senior level, he's represented Latvia at the Men's World Championship eight times (2015-16, 2018-19, 2021-24), winning a bronze medal in 2023, along with making appearances at the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Games.

Known for his grit and smart play with and without the puck, Abols is also an agile skater for his 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame. He can win pucks in all areas of the ice and knows how to strategically use his physical strength to help move his team up the ice.
