When speaking to the media earlier in the day, head coach John Tortorella stated that Poehling was “a little banged up” and that he wasn’t going to join the team on its current road trip as he is dealing with a family matter.
It has not been revealed when or where Poehling was hurt. He played in the Flyers’ last game on Saturday, a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Boston Bruins. In that game, he was on the ice for 11:41, close to two minutes less than what he has averaged so far this year.
If the injury is retroactive to Nov. 2, the earliest the 25-year-old would be eligible to return would be for Philadelphia’s on March 11 against the San Jose Sharks.
Poehling has played in all 12 games the Flyers have played this season, registering five assists in an average of 13:31 TOI, registering a plus/minus of +2.
It is the Lakeville, Minnesota native’s second season with the franchise, as he came to the City of Brotherly Love on a one-year contract for 2023-24. Poehling career highs in games played (77), goals (11), assists (17) and points (28). His play was good enough to earn him a two-year contract extension, which has a cap hit of $1.9 million through 2025-26.
Poehling was taken in the first round, 25th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2017 NHL Draft. He has gone on to appear in 227 NHL games, notching 31 goals and 38 assists for 69 points.
The Flyers (4-7-1) currently sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. They are set to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
