Flyers Veterаn Defender Neаrіng Bіg Mіlestone

This Philadelphia Flyers defenseman is rapidly approaching a significant career milestone.

Erik Johnson

Earlier this offseason, the Philadelphia Flyers re-signed defenseman Erik Johnson to a one-year, $1 million contract. With this move, Johnson will remain a solid depth defender and veteran presence for the rebuilding club.

Johnson, 36, also has an incredibly high chance of hitting a major career milestone if he stays healthy during the 2024-25 season. The 2006 first-overall pick is just 13 contests away from playing the 1000th game of his career.

It is always significant when an NHL player hits the 1000-game mark, as it is not easy to stick around in the sport's most challenging league for various reasons. However, Johnson is on the verge of accomplishing just that, even after dealing with plenty of injury trouble throughout his 16-year career thus far.

In 987 career NHL games split between the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres, and Flyers, Johnson has 93 goals, 250 assists, 343 points, and 1,636 hits. He was also a part of the Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup-winning team.

Overall, Johnson has had a good career, and his resume will only be stronger once he officially gets to 1000 career NHL games.
