Julian Peterson will hold the honor of announcing the 49ers' picks in Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
If the San Francisco 49ers boasted a better squad during the 2000s, All-Pro linebacker Julian Peterson might have been much more of a household name.
He certainly was at the time, arguably the best Niners defender for the first half of that otherwise forgettable decade that saw plenty of laughingstock San Francisco teams.
Peterson, whom the 49ers selected in Round 1 of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Michigan State, ultimately spent six years in the Bay Area where he started 72 games and made it to two Pro Bowls during that span.
Had Peterson stayed with the Niners for the entirety of his career, it might have been different. Departing for the Seattle Seahawks in 2006 changed matters, though, and San Francisco's subsequent selection of Hall of Fame linebacker Patrick Willis a year later almost made Peterson's presence an afterthought.
That said, Peterson was dominant when he donned the red and gold.
And the 49ers will honor that when day two of the 2025 NFL Draft rolls around.
Julian Peterson to announce 49ers' Day 2 NFL Draft picks
Peterson was selected as the alumnus to announce the Niners' selections in Rounds 2 and 3 of this year's draft, news of which was shared by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport a week before the draft kicks off in Green Bay, Wisconsin:
Currently, San Francisco owns three picks between the two rounds, part of their 11-pick crop heading into draft weekend:
- Round 2, No. 43 overall
- Round 3, No. 75 overall
- Round 3, No. 100 overall (compensatory)
While Peterson was overshadowed by both Willis and NaVorro Bowman, subsequently, it's definitely good to see him back in a 49ers stead.
And, hopefully, Peterson will be calling out prospects whose names will soon become of the household variety, too.
Day two of the 2025 NFL Draft is Friday, April 25.
