Former Blackhawk Corey Perry Finally Scores First Goal Of Playoffs

Connor McDavid is so talented he can even make Corey Perry look good.

McDavid weaved around three Florida defenders, then dished to Perry for a jam-in power-play goal from the edge of the crease in the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 win over the Panthers in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday.

McDavid, the five-time regular-season scoring champ, snaked to the left side of the net, then slid the puck to the 39-year-old Perry who finally scored his first goal of the 2024 playoffs. Perry plowed to the net for the score at 11:54 of the second period to give Edmonton a 4-1 lead.

The Oilers held on to trim the Panthers lead in the series to three games to two. Game Six is Friday in Edmonton.

Perry was released by the Blackhawks on Nov. 28, 2023 for violating team policies. He had four goals and five assists in 16 games with Chicago after signing as a free agent over the summer.

Perry signed with the Oilers in on Jan. 21, 2024, then posted eight goals and 13 points in 38 regular-season games. See his history in the following story.

McDavid had two goals and two assists on Tuesday to become the first player in NHL history to record back-to-back four-point games in the Stanley Cup Final.

The four points gave McDavid 42 in these playoffs, the fourth-most in a single postseason in NHL history. McDavid, who had 100 assists in the 2023-24 regular season, was simply spellbinding on the play that set up Perry Tuesday. See https://x.com/NHLNetwork/status/1803243526668362106
