While speaking to reporters, including The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford, St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong announced that former Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug is not expected to play in the NHL again.
Krug, 34, missed the entirety of the 2024-25 season after undergoing ankle surgery in September to address pre-arthritic changes. Now, with this update from Armstrong, the former Bruins star is unlikely to return for the Blues.
Krug last played during the 2023-24 season with the Blues, where he had four goals, 35 assists, and 39 points. This included a five-assist performance against the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 11, 2024.
Krug is under contract with the Blues until the end of the 2026-27 season, carrying a $6.5 million cap hit. He signed his deal during the 2020 NHL off-season, ending his tenure with the Bruins.
Krug spent the first nine seasons of his NHL career with the Bruins and was consistently one of their most impactful players. In 523 games with the Original Six club, he had 67 goals, 270 assists, 337 points, and a plus-23 rating.
