If anyone had a former Dallas Cowboys player defending Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts on their bingo cards, then they are considered big winners.
Former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant weighed in on the week-long debate over where Hurts should be ranked after ESPN surveyed NFL scouts, executives, and coaches, with their verdict being that Hurts ranks ninth. Bryant had quote posted on X from former NFL quarterback Cam Newton's post on Hurts being left off his top 10 QB list. In his post, Bryant said Hurts is a top-five quarterback for how he works so well with the talent around him.
"I think Jalen is one of the top 5 QBs in the National Football League. I believe the National Football League is looking for the Jalen Hurts type. Jalen has mastered how to operate the talent around him. Saquon Barkley became the best running back in the league because of Jalen Hurts' dual-threat ability. AJ and Devonta get one on one coverage a lot due to Jalen Hurts' dual threat ability. The number one skill for a QB is their mind, to operate what's asked of them. He's doing it at a high level."
Never thought this would be written but Bryant is right
Playing the quarterback position is one of the toughest jobs in football, and everyone makes it seem like Hurts does absolutely nothing and Barkley does it all. Some will ignore the audibles he makes at the line, the quick decisions to throw the football under pressure, and his athletic ability to use his legs.
Bryant is absolutely correct with how Hurts has done his job just as well, if not better than most of the quarterbacks in the league. The five interceptions thrown last year show how smart Hurts is with the football.
Most teams in the NFL would kill to have Hurts be their quarterback. He's a Super Bowl MVP, a two-time Pro Bowler, and an All-Pro selection with a Super Bowl title to his resume.
Let everyone keep taking their trash on Hurts. Eagles fans are thankful to have him and will continue to battle the haters to defend him until the very end.
