Former Dolphins Defensive Lineman Cut by Colts After One Season

One year after signing a two-year, $14-million contract, former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Raekwon Davis is back on the open market.

The Indianapolis Colts announced Thursday that they released Davis after struggling to make much of an impact in his first season away from Miami.

With Davis free to sign elsewhere, could a reunion in Miami make sense for both parties? The Dolphins need bodies on the defensive line, have familiarity with the player, and are going to be bargain-hunting this offseason. If the price is right, it's worth investigating.

Davis, 6-foot-7, 325 pounds, is coming off his worst statistical season as a pro, but he's still only 27 years old and fills a need behind Benito Jones. In 80 career games, Davis has 144 tackles (66 solo), 2.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Those aren't overly impressive numbers, but Davis' game doesn't show up in the box score. Davis is a hole-plugging nose tackle who opens things up for those around him.

If Miami wants to fill other needs in free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft, they'll need to pinch pennies somewhere. They made the right decision to let Davis walk last offseason, but a reunion at a reduced rate would be a solid addition to the defensive line.
