Former Eagles hidden gem without a job deserves a training camp invite

Looking at the free agent market, it can sometimes be surprising as to who is still available to be signed. There's a former Philadelphia Eagles player who is ready to play for any team.

Linebacker Kyzir White is coming off a two-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals as he enters his eighth season in the NFL. At age 29, White has proven over the last few seasons that he can play at a high level and be an instant contributor.

There are some questions as to why he has not been signed by any team this offseason. With two weeks to go until training camp, this question still lingers, which might start to give some concerns about White, but there really shouldn't be.

White should be on an NFL roster right now, so what gives?

White is a former fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers back in 2018, where he would spend the first four seasons of his career. His last one in 2021 was the best of his career with a personal best 144 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a sack in 17 games.

He would take his talents to Philadelphia in 2022 on a one-year contract. That proved to be a wise move by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, as White was a perfect fit for then-defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, as he finished with 110 tackles, seven pass deflections, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks in 17 games. He played a pivotal role in getting the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

After Gannon won the Cardinals' head coaching job in 2023, he brought White with him to Arizona. Last season was the second-best statistical season for White as he posted 137 tackles, nine tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, three pass deflections, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery in 17 games.

White has the versatility to play linebacker but can also drop back into coverage at safety. Three times in his career has he notched over 100 tackles in a season. He can do quite a bit on defense.

It's a mystery why no team wants to bring him in. He can be a reliable guy for any team to sign.

Would the Eagles be an option? With Nakobe Dean and Jihaad Campbell recovering from injury, it could be an interesting choice. Roseman has made it clear through his actions this offseason that they are staying younger with talent and are not willing to spend a lot of money.

White may not have many options right now, but training camp will kick off, and there will be injuries that occur that should open the door for him to land a job. Eagles fans hope it isn't a team like the Dallas Cowboys, who have been connected with White all offseason.
