Former Flyers Analytics Blogger Set To Become Hurricanes General Manager

Per Frank Seravalli, the Carolina Hurricanes are promoting former Philadelphia Flyers analytics blogger Eric Tulsky from Interim General Manager to full-time general manager.

Tulsky has written for Broad Street Hockey, NHLNumbers.com, and Outnumbered. The Canes hired Tulsky as a hockey analyst in 2015. He's worked his way up and was most recently the team's Assistant GM since November 2020.

Don Waddell had been the man in charge of the Hurricanes but stepped down shortly after the team was knocked out of the playoffs. Waddell has joined the Columbus Blue Jackets organization as the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager.

Tulsky's knowledge extends far beyond hockey. According to his LinkedIn, he studied chemistry at an advanced level at the University of California, Berkeley.

His research description writes: "Synthetic inorganic chemistry and solid state chemistry. Development of novel methods for solid state synthesis, with application to synthesis of novel heterometallic metal-chalcogenide clusters. Use of those clusters to produce porous magnetic frameworks with the goal of separating small molecules based on magnetic interactions."

Nothing has been formally announced, but it looks like the ultimate dream of a hockey reporter might be about to happen.
