This former Flyers defenseman is off to a strong start this season.
Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere signed a three-year, $9.6 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes this past off-season. This was after the left-shot defender had a solid year with the Detroit Red Wings, posting 10 goals and 56 points in 81 games.
So far, Gostisbehere has played marvelously for the Hurricanes and has been one of their top players. The 5-foot-11 defenseman currently has five goals and 19 points in 24 games. In addition, he is not showing any signs of slowing down, as he has one goal and five points over his last four contests.
At this juncture of the campaign, Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho are the only Hurricanes players with more points than Gostisbehere. In addition, Gostisbehere notably has more points than Canes star Andrei Svechnikov, and the pair have played the same number of games. This just shows how excellently the former Flyer has been playing.
During his time with the Flyers, Gostisbehere certainly provided strong offense from the point. He notably had 13 goals and a career-high 65 points during the 2017-18 campaign. In addition, he also scored a career-best 17 goals as a Flyer in 64 contests during the 2015-16 campaign.
In seven seasons as a Flyer, Gostisbehere had 60 goals, 159 assists, and 219 points in 381 contests.
