Wayne Simmonds announces retirement from the NHL - FiredupNetwork

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they hired former star Wayne Simmonds as a community relations ambassador and hockey operations consultant.

Simmonds, 36, notably signed a one-day contract with the Flyers in April to retire as a member of the organization. Now, he will work for the franchise where he had his most success as a player.

This will be the first time Simmonds has worked in a front-office position since hanging up the skates.

Simmonds had a fantastic eight-year stint with the Flyers from 2011-12 to 2017-18. In 584 games with the Flyers, he had 203 goals, 175 assists, 378 points, 784 penalty minutes, and 1,108 hits. During his prime years in Philly, he was a dominant top-six power forward who provided solid offensive production and plenty of physicality.

Given how loved Simmonds was during his days as a Flyer, it is great to see him now taking on a new position with the club. This looks like an excellent fit for the 15-year NHL veteran.
