Former Kansas Star Shockingly Cut Despite Dominant Preseason

Former Kansas standout QB Jason Bean enjoyed a phenomenal preseason for the Indianapolis Colts after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.

He quickly won over the hearts of Indianapolis and social media at large, though he became a surprise cut when the Colts trimmed their roster to 53 players by Tuesday's deadline. Bean has since been re-signed to the practice squad, though fans were not happy to see the organization keep veteran journeyman Sam Ehlinger instead of the dual-threat Kansas star.

During the preseason, Bean completed 78.9% of his passes for 197 yards (10.4 yards per attempt with a TD and interception. He added 53 rushing yards and two more TDs on the ground, showcasing the skillset that makes him beloved by Jayhawks fans.

It's worth noting that Bean wasn't facing starting defenses, but he was carving up secondaries nonetheless. This was an impressive of a preseason as he could've had, yet still wasn't enough to ultimately win the backup QB job.

Bean has a bright future in the NFL, something that would've been a surprise to most Kansas fans just a few years ago. While filling in for Jalon Daniels during 2023's magical season, Bean completed 62.3% of his passes for 2,130 yards (10.7 YPA) with 18 TDs to seven interceptions. He added 280 yards and three scores as a runner.

He was impressive in 2022 as well, completing 64% of his attempts with 18 total TDs to four interceptions. Bean has proven he'll taken advantage of opportunities when they're given to him, so here's hoping he'll get his NFL shot sooner than later.

Whether it comes with the Colts or he's swooped up by another team at some point, expect to see Bean under center for an NFL team at least once within the next handful of seasons.
