Earlier this offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders hosted a visit for one of their former players who seemed to have left football. Obviously, nothing materialized out of the visit, but it was then made clear that he was on his way back to the NFL.
A few years ago, under a different regime, the Raiders drafted a small guy from Clemson, a guy that no one really believed in at the NFL level. But he ended up having one of the better seasons in the league a few years ago.
After the new regime came in, under Josh McDaniels, he was basically forced out of the league because he wasn't involved in the offense at all, and his numbers were bad. Then, no team really wanted him.
This player is, of course, Hunter Renfrow, the former Clemson Tiger and fan favorite for the Raiders. Renfrow had a 1,000-yard receiving season one year in the NFL. McDaniels came and didn't feature him in the offense at all. Since then, people have been wondering where Renfrow is. He wasn't on a team, and no one had heard anything about him at all.
Then a fan found him on a website for a recycling company in South Carolina, working a position that was actually pretty high up. Fans assumed this meant he was retired. Of course, he came out and said he was not retired. The Raiders hosted him for a visit, and there have been rumblings since of him making a comeback to the league.
The last time Renfrow played was in 2023. Now, he's getting his second chance, but with a team much closer to home.
According to the Carolina Panthers, Renfrow is signing a deal with the team. And, honestly, Renfrow has deserved this for a very long time, but it felt like no team was giving him a shot. If he is given a fair chance, Renfrow is a guy who will make the most out of it
