Former Las Vegas Raiders first-round pick who didn't work out is getting another chance to prove he belongs in the NFL

The Las Vegas Raiders have had a good last few drafts, which is great when you think about a team like them that is trying to rebuild into a playoff team. But it hasn't always been that way

The Raiders have been known as a team, before this regime and the last regime, as a team that doesn't draft well. Look at some of their past drafts in the Jon Gruden era, Josh McDaniels era, and the Jack Del Rio era -- so many players aren't even in the NFL anymore or are just busts because of where they were drafted.

One of their draft busts from the Gruden era now has a chance to get back into the NFL.

Damon Arnette gets workout with Texans

Damon Arnette's NFL career has been a mix of early potential and significant setbacks. The Raiders drafted Arnette in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. His rookie year was cut short by a thumb injury and a COVID-19 stint, limiting him to seven games. In 2021, he played as a backup and suffered a groin injury.

His Raiders tenure ended in November 2021 after a video showed him making threats with firearms, alongside allegations of a 2020 hit-and-run crash. In 13 games with the Raiders, he had four tackles and one pass deflection.

After his release, Arnette briefly joined the Miami Dolphins practice squad in 2021 and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, but never played due to legal issues. He faced arrests in 2022 for assault and drug possession, pleading guilty in 2023 to related charges, receiving community service and a fine.

A 2024 arrest for methamphetamine possession added to his troubles. The NFL suspended him for three games in 2023 for conduct violations, though the suspension was later lifted.

Now, according to several sources, Arnette is set to have a workout with the Houston Texans after having played in the UFL with the Houston Roughnecks. This doesn't mean anything other than they want to see if the safety has what it takes to even be a practice squad player.

And, maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. But you have to hope he gets everything turned around.
