The Las Vegas Raiders really dodged a bullet not long ago. A decent portion of the fan base was upset when the Raiders traded away one of the best tight ends in the league. He was easily a top-three guy at his position.
But, after some recent news, it feels like it was obviously the right decision.
On a Monday, a series of reports emerged indicating that former Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller was considering retirement. These reports specified that Waller was contemplating this decision before the New York Giants minicamp.
Waller has been seen on social media dealing with his own personal issues, and that's okay. It's okay to need some time away from the game. But after his play last season and his possibly nearing retirement, it's clear that the Raiders did dodge that bullet.
Waller played five seasons for the Raiders and accumulated just under 3,500 receiving yards. When he was with the Raiders, he was easily a fan favorite.
You hope that everything turns out the way it should for Waller. If that's retiring because that's what's better for him, then so be it.
