Former New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Terron Armstead is retiring from the National Football League after 12 seasons.
This was first reported by Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports on Saturday evening, who said that Armstead informed him of his intentions to retire. Armstead, 33, has played the last three seasons for the Miami Dolphins. He played his first nine years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.
Armstead was a third-round choice in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Saints out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He is the earliest draft pick in the history of the school, where he was a three-time All-SWAC selection.
Beginning his 2013 rookie campaign as a backup, Armstead saw light action most of the year. He'd get his first career starts during the last two weeks of the year. After that, he was a fixture for an outstanding New Orleans offensive line.
Armstead quickly established himself as one of the finest left tackles in the league. Injuries were often an issue, as he missed an average of over four games per season. However, he was a formidable run blocker and arguably the finest pass blocker in the game.
Armstead was a major key to a Saints line that was one of the best in the league. He earned three straight Pro Bowls from 2018 to 2020, including All-Pro honors in 2018. He'd earn two more Pro Bowls during his three seasons with the Dolphins.
After the 2021 season, Armstead signed a free-agent deal with Miami. He started 15 contests for the Dolphins last season, matching a career-best that he achieved with the Saints in 2019.
