The NFL released the schedule on Thursday and one of the most anticipated games of the Raiders’ regular season isn’t going to happen until December 29 in New Orleans.
On paper, it’s just another early game on Sunday involving two unfamiliar foes, but Derek Carr’s first game against his former team will pique the interest of even casual Raider fans.
It was a complicated nine years that Carr spent with the Raiders, and his final weeks with the team were messier than anyone wanted to see. Now the Raiders will face the quarterback they dumped for Jimmy Garoppolo in a game could have playoff implications for both teams.
Former Raiders’ fullback Marcel Reece talked about Carr’s reunion with the Raiders this week on the Up and Adams Show, and he believes the game will mean “everything” to Carr.
“That game is going to be everything to DC,” Reece said.
“Mark my words now,” he continued. “Derek Carr the entire week is going to say that it’s just another game to him. He’s not going to say anything else because you don’t want to get too emotional before the game. But once that game starts, you are going to see DC hollering and screaming and getting his team up. That is going to be a fun game to watch.”
There’s a lot of time between now and the last week of December, but if Carr is healthy and the teams are both in the playoff hunt, who wouldn’t want to see the Raiders and Saints flexed to Sunday night?
