Keith Kinkaid is getting another chance to prove himself in the NHL and this time it's with the Islanders.
Former New York Rangers goalie is still clinging onto his hockey career for dear life.
At 35-years-old Keith Kinkaid just signed a PTO with the New York Islanders as he hopes to revive his NHL career.
Kinkaid is confident in his ability to still produce as an effective NHL goaltender.
“I’m just putting my best foot forward,” Kincaid said via The New York Post. “Be a pro, be a rookie, but just bring some experience. Kinda show the way. This is my 14th season. I just want to do anything I can to turn heads. Still got a lot left in the tank and, yeah, go from there.”
Kinkaid has played for a number of teams over the past couple of years including the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens, Rangers, Boston Bruins and most recently the Colorado Avalanche.
“You never feel a sense of security or anything,” Kinkaid said. “It’s also good ’cause you gotta prove yourself. That’s what I’m coming here to do: prove myself. Lou knows me from the beginning of my career, so I’m hoping I can still show them what I got.”
The veteran goalie has spent the majority of his time in the AHL recently, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to fight.
Kinkaid played two seasons for the Rangers from 2020-2022 as he recorded an 8-4-2 record, .903 save percentage and 2.53 goals against average.
This opportunity he has now with the Islanders is special for Kinkaid.
“I did grow up an Islander fan,” Kinkaid said. “I loved coming to the Coliseum. That was always a joy of my life. It’s really cool. I played for the Devils and Rangers, I’m hoping we can make the Tri-State or Metropolitan-area trio.”
