Chavis has signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers and is trying to get back to the MLB, where he didn't appear in a game in 2024.
The 29-year-old infielder was selected by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft and spent three years on the big league roster.
Boston traded Chavis in the summer of 2021 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for left-handed relief pitcher Austin Davis.
Chavis has played for the Pirates and Washington Nationals, and last season played in the minor leagues for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox.
The Dodgers have a handful of middle infielders in Tommy Edman, Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor, Kiké Hernandez, so it's unlikely that he makes the big league team.
