Matvei Michkov was extorted for $100k in Dubai after a recent car accident, and now it's been revealed exactly what the Flyers star went through during what turned out to be a nightmare vacation in the UAE.
After a stellar rookie campaign with the Philadelphia Flyers, Matvei Michkov was enjoying what he thought would be a relaxing vacation in Dubai before a car accident brought that tumbling to the ground.
Following the crash, it was reported that he had been extorted by the car rental service, and now, his lawyer in this situation has revealed exactly what happened with the 20-year old star forward.
Reportedly, Michkov had his passport illegally seized and the rental company, Sokol Car Rental L.L.C demanded $100k in hush money, but after this was quickly taken to the court, they ruled in favour of Michkov, with his lawyer having this to say on the situation:
'The actions of the rental company were not only illegal, but also unreasonable This ruling shows the UAE legal system opposes such violations."
Thankfully, the courts did rule in his favour and he has since departed Dubai and the UAE altogether, and while it must have been a very intimidating situation for him, the quick help of his lawyer allowed him to work things out and escape without having to pay the car rental company the hush money.
Ultimately, this was a very tough situation for a 20-year old to find himself in, and while the law ruled in his favour, it's a warning of how quickly things can go wrong, and it's a lesson that Michkov will keep with him throughout his life.
