All eyes are on Gabe Perreault to see if he can make the New York Rangers’ opening-night roster.

After playing two seasons at Boston College, Perreault signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Rangers and made his NHL debut with a lot of anticipation surrounding his arrival in New York.

The 2023 first-round pick ultimately played five games for the Rangers to close out the 2024-25 season and while he failed to record a point, Perreault showed promise, especially from an offensive standpoint.

Perreault attended Rangers development camp and will fight for a roster spot once training camp rolls around.

There’s a scenario where Perreault starts the season with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, but the only thought in his mind at the moment is earning a spot in the Rangers’ lineup.

“I’m going in with the mentality that I’m going to make the team,” Perreault said. “I think coming into camp, that’s what everyone’s mentality should be. Like I said, this summer, I’m going to do everything this summer. Train hard, work on the little things I need to.”

In order to make the team, Perreault will have to earn the trust of New Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan.

The young forward has had some conversations with Sullivan since he got the job in May and looks to continue building a relationship with the Stanley Cup-winning coach.

“More just an introduction, he called me a couple of days after he got the job,” “I’ve been talking to him a little bit, just trying to get to know him as a person.”

Perreault is known for his offensive skill set, but he knows he’ll have to step out of his comfort zone and become more of a two-way forward if he wants to work his way up the depth chart.

“Whatever they need me to do, I’m willing to do,” Perreault said. “So, I’m just coming into camp, trying to find a role and, you know, whatever they want me to do, I’m more than willing to do.”

Regardless of what happens out of training camp, Perreault still very well may get a shot to prove himself in the NHL at some point during the 2025-26 season.
