Garrett Wilson has hinted at a potential contract this offseason, with his agent working in the background to make it happen. He’s under contract through the 2026 season, but the deal could be done imminently to lock him in long term.
The New York Jets have been through some challenges offensively, centered around their struggles to find a franchise quarterback. Despite those hurdles, Garrett Wilson has been a consistent threat in the offense and is hoping to be with the franchise long term.
Garrett Wilson’s impending contract extension with the Jets
Garrett Wilson has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his last three seasons in the NFL, despite the QB situation that’s handicapped the Jets for the past few years.
He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year back in 2022, with over 1,100 receiving yards while catching passes from a mix of Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco.
The former Ohio State Buckeye set a new career high in 2024, both in receptions (101) and touchdowns (7), while posting 1,104 receiving yards. He had to wait a full year to finally connect with Aaron Rodgers on the field, and it turned out to be his most productive year to date.
In 2025, the Jets will once again enter a new era. This time it will be a familiar face for Wilson, reuniting with his college quarterback Justin Fields.

When asked about the Jets signing of his former teammate, Wilson said:
“He’s someone I’m familiar with, someone I have a great relationship with, someone that I love just watching him play.”
Before the 2025 season begins, the Jets’ wide receiver is hopeful of a new long-term contract. He said he wanted to be a Jet for life, and a long term deal could help to cement his place with the franchise for several more years.
According to Spotrac, Wilson’s market value is $23.2 million per season, anticipating that Wilson will sign a three-year, $69.9 million contract extension.
That deal would come in close to the extension Michael Pittman signed with the Indianapolis Colts, while in a similar situation with his rookie deal. The Colts’ star signed a three-year, $70 million contract extension in 2024.
Wilson is a leader on a resurging Jets roster
Under newly appointed head coach Aaron Glenn, the New York Jets are hoping to rebuild their identity in 2025. The former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator wants to establish a tough, no-nonsense defense, but understands the value of his best offensive playmaker too.
When asked about the plan for Garrett Wilson, Glenn simply said:
“Give him the ball as much as possible.”

The New York Jets added veteran wide receiver Josh Reynolds in the offseason, somebody Glenn knows well from their time in Detroit. They then drafted tight end Mason Taylor in the second round and wide receiver Arian Smith in round four, in an attempt to rebuild the talent pool of pass catchers.
