Garrett Wilson’s New Contract Puts Saints WR Next in Line for Huge Payday

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave could be up for a big payday soon.

The New York Jets announced they have agreed to a massive 4-year $130 million deal with wide receiver Garrett Wilson, per Ian Rapoport.

Olave and Wilson have lots of similarities. Both are Ohio State wide receivers picked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, both have been standouts on their teams, and both have dealt with inconsistencies at quarterback since entering the league.

With Wilson receiving his massive extension, it's only fitting that Olave is up for a big payday too. The Saints committed to their fourth-year wide receiver earlier in the offseason, picking up his fifth-year option, but the team is likely working to get a longer deal worked out with their star wideout.

Olave started his career with New Orleans explosively, with the former first-round pick recording back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Despite the solid production by the star receiver, there remains a concern over his ability to stay healthy. Olave hasn't played a full season since entering the league, highlighted by multiple head injuries in 2024 that limited him to just eight games.

Wilson, on the other hand, has produced similar stats to Olave but has appeared in all 17 games in each of his three seasons, posting at least 1,000 yards each year.

2025 will be a big year for the Saints' fourth-year wideout. From being the team's clear-cut WR1 with an offensive-minded head coach to working towards a new contract, Olave will be due a big contract if he can take advantage of his circumstances.

Other obstacles outside of Olave's injury history may get in the way, however. The Saints don't have security at the quarterback position with the team set to start either a rookie or second-year fifth-round pick as their signal caller for 2025. While this can be seen as a negative, Olave's ability to make life easier on his young quarterback can get him paid sooner rather than later.
