After seven years and a whole lot of harrowing storylines, Sofia Mattsson is officially saying goodbye to General Hospital as Sasha leaves Port Charles. July 18, 2025, as her character bid farewell to Port Charles.
In her final episode, Sasha left for France with her daughter Daisy, sharing a heartfelt reunion with her father, Robert Scorpio, portrayed by Tristan Rogers. This final scene was particularly special for Mattsson, as it marked not only the conclusion of her GH journey but also a deeply meaningful moment with her on-screen father.
Farewell, Port Charles
Reflecting on her exit, Mattsson told TV Insider that the final scenes were filmed last, making them all the more poignant. “It was special because normally we don’t always shoot in order,” she explained. “But my last scenes that aired were actually filmed last. And, of course, it was special that they were with Tristan. I really loved how sweet those scenes were.”
Mattsson’s GH journey began in September 2018 when she was cast as Sasha Gilmore. Although her first stint was only meant to last a few episodes, the character quickly became a fan favorite, and Mattsson was asked to return. Initially recurring, she was eventually signed to a long-term contract, something she never expected but was thrilled to embrace.
Not only did her time on the show help her grow as an actress, but it also coincided with personal milestones. During her years on GH, Mattsson became a U.S. citizen and welcomed two children with her husband, Thomas Payton. Her time in Port Charles will certainly be remembered by both fans and her co-stars alike.
See Ya, Sasha
With Daisy being stalked by Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), Sasha has decided the only way to keep her daughter safe is to leave Port Charles and go into hiding. Now that Sasha convinced Michael (Rory Gibson) that’s what’s best for their daughter and Sasha prepares to leave town, her portrayer is saying goodbye to the place she’s called home for the last seven years.
A Storyline To Remember
Sasha has been through the ringer during her time in Port Charles. After coming to town to trick Nina (Cynthia Watros) into thinking she was her daughter, Sasha later found love with Brando (Johnny Wactor, who was tragically murdered in 2024). Devastation hit the character when their infant son Liam died, and Brandon was later killed by Heather (Alley Mills).
Sasha’s tragedy led to her becoming addicted to pills, almost overdosing due to Cyrus (Jeff Kober), then falsely getting thrown in a mental institution so her mother-in-law Gladys (Bonnie Burroughs) could have access to her Deception riches.
As she steps away from the show, Mattsson’s departure marks the end of an era for Sasha. Will Port Charles ever be the same without her? Time will tell.
