General Hospital's Finola Hughes as Anna.
General Hospital has gotten infinitely more interesting lately with the story about Josslyn (Eden McCoy), training to become a WSB agent. Taking a page from the ABC series Alias, Joss has been recruited to become a spy, and getting to watch her journey is great fun. We didn't get to see that progress with Anna (Finola Hughes), who had already been a spy when she joined the show in 1985. Having been on the show for forty years, Hughes has reached an incredible milestone and recently opened up about how things would happen if she were part of Joss' spy story.
She would have been protective of Joss
Hughes took some time to talk to Woman's World about getting to play Anna in Port Charles for four decades. Reflecting on her history on the show, she remarked, "I love the training of the new generation." Regarding Joss and the WSB, the actress remarked, "I wish Anna could get involved because she was probably Josslyn's age when she was training to become WSB. She'd be incredibly protective of Joss and probably tear Brennan [Chris McKenna] apart for doing this in such an underhanded way."
Jack Brennan has been forming a romantic relationship with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), Joss' mother. But he recruited the young woman in secret, recognizing in her key traits that would make her become an excellent intelligence agent. Hughes commented on Jack's actions with Joss further, noting, "But if I were
Brennan, the person I would be most terrified of is Carly!"
The WSB is shinier now
Seeing Joss being tested, which is pushing her limits both physically and mentally, makes us wish we'd seen Anna's training. Hughes explained she was happy that the World Security Bureau has become more prominent on the show. She hilariously explained how the spy business worked when she was first on the series.
"In our day, we just had this secret room which had this monstrous sort of computer," she stated, adding, "and we would go in there and do whatever skull doggery we were up to. But now, we have Brennan commanding drones from his desk. The WSB is shinier and more specific." Anna is currently the police commissioner of Port Charles, a job which she had done once before. Prior to that, she was made co-chief of police with Burt Ramsey (Bob Hastings) and was even police commissioner for Pine Valley on All My Children.
Now that she's back in the saddle again, she has her hands full dealing with all of the chaos in the city. She clashed with Jack when he first came to Port Charles, and her police work has her far removed from any WSB adventures - although - she does owe him her life when he sent a drone strike to Africa that saved her life
and that of Jason (Steve Burton).
It will be interesting to see Anna's reaction when she eventually does learn the truth about Joss, and we're looking forward to it! (Find out about the cool things that could happen when Joss becomes a spy.)
