General Hospital's Nina Reeves took a journey this week, and we took it right along with her as Nina came to a horrifying realization before having to finally face the truth about her daughter — and herself. Cynthia Watros took us on this journey to stunning results, earning her the title of Soap Central's General Hospital Performer of the Week.
Aunt Liesl (Kathleen Gati) was very pointed with Nina last week that there was something very wrong with her daughter. By Wednesday, Nina knew that Liesl was right when Portia (Brook Kerr) told her that Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) didn't even care that Drew (Cameron Mathison) wanted Portia to falsify Michael's (Rory Gibson) medical records to make him look like an opioid addict. In fact, she was all for it.
Watros showed us Nina's mix of confused shock. It was a small moment as Nina wondered just how far gone Willow really was. That small moment became a very big moment the next day when Nina didn't just wonder how far gone she was. She finally knew.
The next day, it finally hit Nina that she had accused the wrong person of stalking Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Daisy, thinking it had to be Drew because he knew how to sneak around the Q estate without being caught. As she watched Willow get ready for her wedding, Nina thought back on recent conversations, and it hit her that Willow also knew her way around the Q estate.
Watros' eyes filled with tears as her face went white. Nina could barely breathe when she excused herself from the room with her voice trembling. By the time Ava (Maura West) caught up with her in a pew, Nina was a hysterical mess, but what happened next was classic Watros.
When she is pushed too far, Nina's anger and determination come out in full force. Her eyes widened, and her voice dropped to a low, guttural pitch. Nina declared she'd had enough and was finally going to do what she knew she had to do about the Willow and Drew mess.
By the time Nina got to Willow, ostensibly to tell her that she had slept with Drew last year, Curtis (Donnell Turner) had already gotten to the bride-to-be, leaving Nina no choice but to tell the truth. Watros brought out Nina's vulnerability as she tried to defend herself to Willow, the daughter she had always wanted and finally had in her life.
We heard the breathless desperation in Nina's voice, as well as the despair. We also saw the frustration on her face as she tried to prove a point to Willow. No matter what she said about Drew for the last six months, Willow refused to hear it.
In the end, Watros gave Nina all the emotions all at once as she tried to run from the wedding and then watched with dread as Willow prepared to walk down the aisle anyway.
